YOU ARE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO GET COLON CANCER

In 2007 our 24 year old son was loosing weight, tired, & experiencing intermittent stomach cramps. In October the symptoms became acute and he was admitted to hospital. The diagnosis of a complete obstruction of the colon due to a malignant tumour came as an unbelievable shock. How could this happen to him at such a young age? Impossible, but it had. Immediate surgery to remove the tumour and save his life was performed. This was followed by three months of chemo to shrink two tumours in his liver. Luckily he responded really well to the chemo, and underwent a liver resection in March 2008. A further three months of chemo including Avastin, and he was in remission. This lasted for 12 months, but unfortunately a routine scan in Aug 2009 showed a reoccurrence in the liver. A second liver resection was done in September 2009, followed by 6 months of chemo. He has been in remission since completing the chemo in June, 2010. He has regained his health, and is working again as a commercial pilot after three and half years of surgery & treatment. He has beaten the odds and survived the impossible.
