What can my son do to help prevent Colon Cancer

My husband passed away from colon cancer at the age of 56. My husbands uncle also passed away from it. My husbands brother had treatment in 2010 and was stage2 cc. They all had it at least 10 years before symptoms began.

My son is 32. Are his risks of contracting cc higher than average and what can he do to help prevent it if anything? How often should he have a colonoscopy done?

Thank you,
Momma

colonoscopy
by: pennyleer

My dad was 53 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. My brother and I have been getting colonoscopies every five years since then. He had polyps the last time, I did not.

It is my fifth year and I just had a right hemicolectomy done for stage 2 cc. He needs a colonoscopy now. I have aunts who had female cancers, so now they are telling me to get genetic testing done. I suggest that for your son, too.

Positive means we had/have an eighty percent chance of getting cc, negative, only two percent chance. I can't believe no one told me to get this done sooner. I am 43 years old. Good luck.

COLON CANCER HISTORY
by: Anonymous

Have your son tell his doctor about so much family history. He should have a colonoscopy much sooner than most people. He needs a colonoscopy.
