Should I let the surgeons take all my colon or leave a little?

by dan

I am facing the possibility of removal of the colon or leaving 6" to avoid a colostomy bag. I need information on what goes on with leaving 6" and chances of getting cancer there. I had cancer with 1 1/2 ft taken first, then 2nd with 3 polyps that were in last stage before cancer. This all started 7 years ago.

A real colon cancer puzzle- take all the colon out or leave part that may develop more polyps?

It appears that you are prone to polyps so there is always a risk that polyps could grow in the six inch section of intestines that you are leaving behind. It is up to you to decide if it is worth the risk, knowing that doctors will watch that six inches of intestines very carefully and you would be spared a colostomy if you keep those six inches.
