Post Treatment for Colon Cancer

Hi,

My mother suffered from colon cancer, she was operated for it...and positively in her biopsy test reports no lymph nodes were found infected. I want to know if chemotherapy and radiotherapy are necessary in her case?

Please help
Shilpa

Second Opinion with another expertise.
by: Anonymous

My mother was also diagnosed with Stage II colon cancer in Jan'11 and got the colon surgery done in Feb'2011. Doctor did not advise chemo or radiation. After a year her ultrasound in Dec'11 reported no recurrence, but CEA level was above the normal range and doctor said nothing to worry about.

Later in Jan'12 my mother had two episodes of severe vomiting and her CT scan report revealed growth of cancerous mass outside her colon which is also obstructing the ureter. And now she is scheduled for her first chemo next week. It is recommended to do CT scan, ultra sound every 6 months and blood test every 3 months to monitor her CEA level. I strongly advise to always take second opinion on the medical reports for ultimate interpretation of the result.

Colon Cancer

I also had colon cancer and surgery. I was stage one with no lymph node involvement. I didn't receive and radiation or chemo as part of my treatment. In the U.S. this is standard treatment for stage I with no lymph involvement.
