post operative bowel control

In March 2009, I had an operation to remove an early diagnosed rectal cancer, where the cancer was very close to my rectal exit. After the operation my bowels did not work and I was fasted for almost a week to allow recovery.
The operation was a success and follow up scans suggest I have made a good recovery but I still find that without taking 5 x 2mg loperamide Hydrochloride capsules, I have little bowel control.
If I miss my capsules "all hell breaks loose".
