Post op infections in abdominal cavity

by Mark Outlaw
(Isle of Wight UK)

My father had surgery for bowel cancer ten months ago and 48 hours later a blood transfusion due internal bleeding. His abdomen was packed with gauze for 5 days to stem the bleed.

Since then he has had multiple internal abscesses which finally burst out through the original wound and each time becomes very ill. After antibiotics and weeks in hospital he was released only for the process to repeat. We are desperate to find out if any one has had similar experiences and what can be done to solve this problem. Our hospital seems to have run out of ideas.
