DEAR 3-MOS. POST-OP
by: Anonymous

wow-you might get a second opinion if you don't think your surgeon is helping you. you might also get a copy of your surgery report and read through it just so you have a thorough understanding of what all was done. regarding constipation, Metamucil wafers helped me tremendously. I think continued bleeding needs immediate attention!

3 months after Colon Resection
by: Anonymous

Just began work on light duty 2 weeks ago, still having a 'tearing' like pain in my belly button area, constipation (using ducolax twice a day and Metamucil twice a day), bright red blood along with each bowel movement. I drink and eat as I have been told, had a follow up colonoscopy last week, they found another large polyp in my transverse colon, the anastamosis site had to be stretched due to inflammation and there was blood seen along the colon tract. No Cancer but cannot get rid of the pain, blood or feeling of bloating. Got any answers? My next follow up with the surgeon is in 2 weeks

I am now 6wks post-op from my colon resectioning. The pain is improving...somewhat. I have had 2 C-sections and a full hysterectomy in the past and have NEVER had pain or recovery like what I have experienced with this surgery; but I do think I'm getting better...

FYI to anyone with post-op pooping issues--Activia yogurt and Metamucil wafers have been a LIFESAVER--keeps things MUCH more 'normal.' Take them daily :)

THE PAIN COULD BE FORM THE FOOD.
by: ALBERT

It is usual to have pain after 2 weeks of surgery.
You can always consult your doctor about it.

If it is the same pain you used to have during the first week, then the colon is still in the healing process and you should be careful not to lift up anything heavy. Don’t push too hard on objects like pushing a heavy grocery cart. If it's a new kind of pain or different from the pain you had after the surgery, then it could be from some kind of food that you are eating. You should be on a liquid diet first, and then each time you eat solid food, start with one type only to test the colon reaction to it. For example, if this is the first time you will eat fish after few weeks from the surgery, and then don’t eat a big portion of it. Start with a little piece for testing. If after couple hours it didn't cause any pain, then you can try another bigger bite.
Next day, if you didn't have problems with that fish you ate yesterday, then you know that fish is ok with you.

Don't eat different things. If you have pain from the food, you will not know which one of them is the problem.

Make a list of the food that does not cause pain.
Every week you will find that the list is getting longer. Good Luck!

ALBERT
