Other Treatments for Colon Cancer

by Rob
(New York State)

I had an operation in 2006 and no chem since it looked like I didn't need it. Was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in April and given six months to a year to live if I did not go on chemo. Seven months later I still have no symptoms. Had none in April. An X-ray for another unrelated operation showed tumors in my lung.

I have self medicated with DCA (dichloroacetate) since April and now my oncologist at a top hospital has decided that I should not get chemo since my tumors are shrinking. Two CT scans, one in June and one in September showed shrinkage each time. My CEA is under 6 and has stayed there since I started DCA.

Not recommending anyone do this. Just a heads up that there are other possibilities. DCA is probably not a cure, has side affects and doesn't work or stops working for some.

Also looking into Metformin which kills colon cancer cells in vitro. LDN which can bolster your immune system. Ribavirin which attacks a protein that colon cancer needs to survive. Also looking into a chemical TM which depletes cooper from the body.

Am taking supplements including Curcumin, EGCG, lots of fish oil, aspirin (2 baby), Chorophillin and lots of B vitamins to help with the peripheral neurapathy which is the most common side affect of DCA.

Try the University of Alberta with DCA in google to see what they are doing with DCA in a clinical trial. Go to thedcasite.com to learn more from people like me.

I may be on regular chemo if my December scan does not show improvement but at the moment DCA is working for me.

Rob again
by: Rob

Rob again. Had my latest CT scan August 3rd.

No change in my tumors. It is now over 15 months since I was diagnosed with mCRC and 3 years 9 months since diagnosed with colon cancer. I feel fine and still have no symptoms.

I think DCA is working for me so far. My oncologist says we will just keep watching it. Next CT scan is on 11/11 at 11 am. No chemo or treatment so far, just DCA.

metastatic colon cancer progress report -fFollow up to Rob (me)
by: Rob

December and February CT scans showed no tumor growth, no other metastatic sites and I still have no symptoms, feel fine, blood work and such as blood pressure all excellent (120 over 67).

Have added Artemisinin (anti malarial supplemental drug) to my arsenal, right now am taking a gram a day plus an acid that makes it work better. Did add Metformin, 200 mgs.
Added both since last CT scan in February. Looking forward with apprehension to scan in April.

Looking at a number of clinical trials for targeted pro-drugs. Still putting off any standard Chemo even if in trials.

This is now 10.3 months since diagnosis with metastatic colon cancer and 3.6 months since original colon cancer diagnosis.
