My mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer

by Kent
(Tempe, AZ, USA)

How do I get my mother to change her mind about seeking a second opinion? She's basically giving up on life and refuses any kind of treatment.

My mother has been diagnosed with colon cancer at a stage 4. She was given only 6 months but to the looks of it, we all feel she has less. She has no desire to be treated or get a second opinion.

I don't blame her for not wanting to go through chemotherapy or surgery, however, I do wish she were wanting to help herself. My question is, how can I get it through to her that she needs to get more help, who knows, this could be curable!

Colon Cancer
by: Kent Shelley

Hi all,

I wanted to thank you all for the comments and suggestions. They have meant a lot to me. My Mom actually passed away on January 16th, 2011. Although it has been over a year since her death, it is still hard to deal with it. She was my best friend. I was most definitely a mama's boy haha! Thank you all again for the help and comments! :)

Stay strong<3

My Grandpa has the same thing only he is getting treatment. We all thought he wouldn't last past Christmas and now he is still alive! Treatment does help but it's also all about quality of life. The chemo can be really hard on people and we have had to do a lot of round robin stuff with medication just to help him be better.

It does help you live longer and there is a way to find a happy medium with treatment and quality of life. Ulitimantly it is her choice though and just try to spend as much time as you can with her before she goes instead of worrying. I found that I have spent probably over half the time he has left worrying. Just try to enjoy it no matter how hard it is.

I wish you the best of luck for you and your mom. You will be in my prayers because I sure do know the feeling! <3

Hi

Hi,

If she doesn't want treatment, maybe you can ask her change her daily diet. My Chinese doctor told me that Colon Cancer doesn't like anything that sour. Maybe you can ask your mom to drink half of lemon juice daily. Ginseng and Lingzhi soup are Chinese people favorite for Cancer fighting herb and they has been using it for over 2000 yrs.
