My Colon Cancer

My story is to let people know that they should get physicals and always answer the questions honestly, know matter if they are personal or embarrassing.
My doctor, during a physical for medicine for unrelated medical problems, asked me if I had had any changes in my bowel movements. I had, but not really anything major. I told her that, and also I noticed a difference in the colors.
Long story short, I did the fecal smear, it came back with blood in stool. Well, a colonoscopy followed and the growth was found and it was cancer-you could have knocked me down with a feather.
I went in for first a port, used to save my veins from the chemo medicine that followed the surgery, it was an experience in itself. I stayed in the hospital for nine days, I have a huge scar on my belly, sleep didn't come easy, not a good thing to go through.
Next came six months of chemo, just to make sure that I didn't have any cancer cells "hiding", lost some hair, cried a lot, was an emotional mess, missed months of work, was on lots of vitamin supplements to keep up immunity.
I could go on, but I would just want people to know that it is something that you will live through and it doesn't always happen to older people, I was only 45 when it happened to me.
