Imperative screening

I had my five year colonoscopy August 2006 and was informed the test showed my colon was clean of any polyps or cancer. I had a slight pain in the rectum area December 2006 and knew that I had the start of hemorrhoids.
The physician informed me that the pain, which was frequent when having a bowl movement, was apparently hemorrhoids. He looked at the photos he had taken from my colonoscopy and they were negative regarding any signs of disease. After approximately three weeks, I was still complaining about the pain, my colon was scoped again and stage #2 cancer was found in the lower area of the colon/rectum.
After 33 treatments of radiation and 5-FU chemo I had the colon removed and followed up with more chemo treatments. It's now Oct of 2009 and so far I've been clean of any disease. So it's possible to get colon cancer even though you get your colonoscopy. But still the scoping is the best thing to do.
The screening is imperative and it will make a difference in early detection or a fatal ending!
Cancer does not play any favorites and we are all touched by the disease either by family or friends and we must not become complacent regarding our health.
