how many years approximaty PLEASE!

How many years can it take other than "many" approximate for a colon adenoma to grow to size 11.5 cm adenocarcinoma taking up the entire right side of the colon.
My husband just past away last month at the age of 52 with a year of treatments etc.
I guess I just need to know how he didn't realize he had something wrong until the weight loss and anemia and occasional belly aches? :(

Size of Polyp
by: confused daughter

Hi I just had a question, my mum just had her routine colonoscopy as she has them every 5 years due to her sister and brother having colon cancer. Her sister survived hers and well her brothers was found by accident as he was on blood thinners for a heart problem, unfortunatly he passed away only 2 years ago.

But My question Is my mum's colonoscopy from 5 years ago was clear. How does she now have one and the doctor said they found a 20cm polyp in the join between her small bowel and large. They did biopsy and we are waiting for results. Her letter from the Gp says they found a polyp size 1/3 of her bowel and have booked her in for another colonoscopy at a different hospital but when she left after this one the doctor said they could not remove such a large polyp through colonoscopy so why have they booked her for that, its so confuseing and my mum is 63 and not even she understands what they're doing. We are very confused any help to understand would be great.

stomach polyps
by: Jana

I have just found out I have stomach polyps, and do not know as yet what type they are or how big, I am waiting to see a gastro specialist. but wondering if I can get rid of them by a detox fast with vegetable juices. Be nice to hear some comments on this, if someone else has been able to get rid of them and by what means?

High Grade or Low Grade?
by: Anonymous

Well, from what I understand there are two types of cancer as far as the grade. There is high grade (fast growing) and low grade (slow growing). My husband just turned 50; 9 days prior to his birthday he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma; high grade, colorectal cancer with mestasis to the liver (more cancer than liver) lymphnodes and lungs. He had NO symptoms other than a small amount of blood in his stool for about a week in August; then it went away. He also had a low ache under his belly button, which we attributed to "probably kidney stones" because he's suffered from stones for years. From 8/2011 through the end of October 2011 my husband rapidly lost weight and laid around in the bed a lot. He'd always say, I'm just stretching out. My back's bothering me. I still cannot believe my husband's diagnosis....the prognosis was even worse. The Oncologist asked my husband if he even wanted to bother with treatment..HUH? What? He's only 50 years old! Of course he wants treatment. We had our first round of chemo and going for the second 12/6th a combo of FU5 and Oxi infusions. So far he seems so well; he's up and around, but naps a lot. He's eating pretty well (about 1/2 of what he used to eat). And, he looks pretty good albeit he's very skinny. He has a little ascites in the belly and he had edema in his legs and feet due to surgery. The day we spoke to the Oncologist, my husband passed about a bucket of blood and we ended up in the hospital for 3 days. So, from what I understand my husbands cancer is fast growing because it's high grade. So, find out if your cancer or your spouses cancer is high grade or low grade. We're holding on to hope that my husband will live through this.

how many years for colon adenoma to grow?
by: Anonymous

I find it hard to believe but....The oncologist told me 2-3 years for an adenoma to grow! What a shocker! :( I always thought the same thing as far as taking many years! WOW!!
The oncologist also believe's that this may be hereditary? HNPCC (Lynch Syndrome) My husband had no family history of colon cancer?

Sorry for your lost
by: Glen

From what I've read it takes many years for colon cancers to develop. I started having blood spots in my stool and went to a doc right away but he didn't think it was necessary to do a rectal exam and diagnosed me with stomach virus. It kept happening off land on for about a year and then the bleeding got very bad so I knew it was something serius. I was finally diagnosed with stage 2 - possible 3 colerectal cancer.

The problem is prior to that first sign of blood I didn't have any symptoms and continued to feel fine with no pain until the pain from the treatments. That is why it is so important to get a colonoscopy as soon as possible - at age 40 - lie and say you have blood in your stool and insurance will pay for it.
