Famous People with Cancer

How do famous people with cancer get special medical care?

We have all heard stories about rich and famous people buying their way into every place - except heaven. Maybe you have wondered how these "entitled" people deal with life-threatening illnesses. Here is a real-life story that will help answer that question. It is about a person with a terminal illness who spent $250,000 to dramatically extend his life.

Mr. Josephs' Story

Mr. Joseph was a high level executive with a large company when he learned he had terminal Stage 4 kidney cancer. While he was rich, but not famous, he thought to himself, "How do famous people with cancer deal with this? He answered this question himself and took bold action. He contacted a pharmaceutical consulting company that was well connected and told the executive, "I am your newest client!"

He gave the company $50,000 to put his medical records in front of four top world medical experts in kidney cancer. These doctors recommended the most appropriate drugs for his problem, and got him admitted into a treatment program.

Mr. Joseph was a very clever person, because he realized that famous people with cancer get into these programs without revealing their identity. But he was not concerned about revealing his identity, because he was merely rich - not famous.

Once Mr. Joseph started on this new program, his health improved dramatically, and he stayed relatively healthy while other patients with similar problems were going downhill. But after six months in the program, his health began to decline, and he needed to be switched to newer treatments. His team of doctors recommended the best experimental treatments for him, and the consulting company tried to get him admitted to these clinical trials.

However, Mr. Joseph was not allowed into these clinical trials because he had other unusual medical conditions. "But famous people with cancer do not give up," he thought. He gave the consultants $100,000 to have the experimental medicines formulated just for him by medicinal chemists. By that time, his symptoms had become very serious, and he was too tired to get out of bed. He knew he had only a few months of life left.

But Mr. Joseph did get the new experimental cancer drug, and began to recover within two weeks. Three weeks later, he got out of bed and four weeks after that, he was able to walk around his neighborhood. Then, he went back to work part-time. That wonderful situation lasted 10 months, at which time, the cancer spread again and he began to go downhill once more.

Another $100,000 got him a second experimental cancer drug and kept him at work eight additional months before the cancer began to spread again. This time, it kept spreading and none of the experimental medicines could help. He died a year later, surrounded by his friends and family. He knew he couldn't take his money with him, but it gave him more than two extra years with his wife and kids.

Protect Yourself From the High Cost of Cancer

According to the recent studies, American men have a 44% chance of developing cancer while the chances for women are about 37%. The general risk of developing colon cancer in the United States is about 6%. For this reason, it's important for everyone, particularly people above the age of 50 years, to go for routine screening.

Whether discovered early or late, cancer is a debilitating disease due to the care, costs and the mental and physical trauma involved. Many times the cost of treatment leaves the patient in heavy financial distress.

Most insurance plans do not cover the total cost of the treatment, which leaves the patient and their family in a lurch. These days people have started purchasing supplemental cancer insurance that can help in covering otherwise uninsured expenses related to cancer illness.
