End stage colon cancer

by Phyllis
(Chicago)

I asked a question about stage 4 colon cancer and no one has answered it yet...I don't understand why! I need the answer to help my dearest friend through this; realizing his time is short is not an easy fact to accept.

I'm sure there is someone out there who could open up for me! I'm not stupid and realize humans don't like to talk about death, yet it is the final act of all of us.

Why can't someone please come forward and help me to please fill in the blanks. Colon cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers and death takes many patients; please tell me what to expect before it's too late to be prepared so that I can comfort him and help make his last weeks easier.

I just want some honest answers about how much time he has and what to expect...surely others have seen the last weeks or days of stage 4 colon cancer. Thank you.

Paul's Journey
by: Anonymous

I was looking for what next myself and came across this post.

My uncle is facing the end of his life. He had to have a colostomy 2 years ago when he was diagnosed and decided to fight submitting to 8 months of chemo. In Dec. 2010, he insisted on surgery to remove the bag saying he wanted to die without it. He survived the surgery went to rehab and was discharged in March 2011 at 109lbs.
We thought he was coming home to die; and he is still here 6 mos later. In May we called Hospice to come in to help and they bathe him, visit and oversee his care. My husband is retired and has become his caregiver (It is a huge job as I work during week and take over in PM). He has grown very weak and spends most day in wheelchair (not very responsive and somewhat confused). Remarkably pain has not set in yet but this past week he complained of rectal pain (He attributes to internal hemmoroids). Anti depressants have been increased to make him more comfortable and he is on oxygen at night for more rest. Going in potty chair and has not eaten much at all since last Aug! 4 ensure plus per day with benfiber in it increased his weight over last six months to 120! Expect napping will increase more and time in bed, expect pain to set in and morphine to be needed....
Suffers also COPD suspect lungs may be affected due to congestion. Voice very weak.
Mind is still mostly clear, which is curse.

Hope this helps.

Carol

End stage colon cancer

Sorry to hear your news. My father, age 74, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer 2 1/2 years ago. He declined treatment. The doctors told him he would live only 1-year. Well he had over 2-years before he started having real problems. He started feeling tired and weak, lost his appetite, seemed confused at times and started sleeping more. Hospice is taking care of him now because he needs help with everything (bathing, dressing, potty, meds, eating, etc.) He has zero energy, cannot stand or walk, and says his stomach and bottom hurt all the time. He's lost his balance and fell many times over the last month. He has no control over his bladder and has to wear a diaper now. At times he can carry a short conversation, but most of the time he sleeps or is confused. Doctors say he might have 1-month left now; he is fading fast. Good luck to you.

Answered With A Phone Number?????
by: Phyllis

I finally received a reply to the question that I asked weeks ago. It was answered very optimistically but no one signed it. The juice the person referred to was never named.

Forgive me, but if you truly had stage 4 colon cancer and such wonderful results...why all the secrecy? If your tumors shrunk and you feel so good, I would think you would be shouting out loud, loud enough that we could hear you without a computer. I think you should get online and tell everyone what helped you so much if it's true...don't just share your information with one desperate person! Too many are dying!

Please prove me wrong.

Dealing With Stage 4 Colon Cancer
by: Randall Ficken

On Sep. 3 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. [cancer moved to my liver) Doctor told me that the 3 tumors on my liver were to large to remove so she started me on Chemo (o boy that's fun). Around Christmas i got very ill (one foot in the grave) i could not eat,or keep anything down, basally bedridden. My neighbor gave me some juice and told me to try this i think you will like the results. So i started sipping on it and about 2 days latter i could start eating whole food, keeping it down, and have a lot more energy. My neighbor also told me that this juice aids in the healing process of the body on the cellular level.I'm doing the 21 day challenge witch is 1 bottle of juice a day and i feel super. Just had another CT scan (x-ray of the colon and liver) and the tumors on my liver were getting smaller.
I'm not saying that this is a CURE for cancer or it is a MIRACLE DRUG. All i'm saying is this is working for me and maybe it will work for you. So if you have any questions or just want to talk please give me a call 641-485-6930
