Diet after colon resection

by Karen Miller
(Portugal)

I am very confused, my mum has recently had part of her colon removed due to a cancerous polyps. I have been researching anti cancer diets. The diet that she has been given by the hospital for her recovery is totally the opposite, as it is low fibre, I understand the colon has to heal but surely there are healthy options than white bread white rice etc can you give me some advise as to what would be healthy for her to eat. To also prevent further spread of cancer.

Foods my husband is eating and doing well with
by: Anonymous

Salmon or Dover sole fish is very soft and mild - flavor with salt and lime and parsley with flaxseed oil (helps prevent constipation)

Peeled mashed red potatoes with salt and flaxseed oil - yummy. U can also put organic chicken gravy with minced chicken into the gravy.

Scrambled eggs with some small chopped and sauted mitaike mushrooms.

Cottage cheese and canned fruit in a jar if possible. Soft pears are good too.

I understand modified citrus pectin helps treat diarrhea, but we have not tried that since we don't have that problem. Canned sardines were good too with some bread. We try to stick with organic, yeast free bread, like sour dough. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Colon Resection
by: Barry

4 weeks ago I had a radical laproscopic colon re sction carried out by the best surgeon in Hampshire.
Frankly the guy was amazing, his dedication and that of his registrar was unbeleivable visiting from early morning to midnight, with several bedside visits in between.
My problem was my digestive system went to sleep for 12 days so ended up on IV and IV feeding and losing 12 kgs in the process before it restarted.
Dietry advice is sparce, however my surgeon told me it is like re training the stomach and bowels similar to a baby from liquids through sloppy diet to solids.
I'm still experimenting on easy digestive solids, but stools are still very loose and undigested.
Avoid ANTHING that is hard to digest, veg, greens, brown bread with seeds, but everyone is different so its trial and error.

nutritional food for recovery from colon resection
by: Anonymous

Yes I understand that thaankyou, but i dont understand how you can be advised to eat things that will encourage cancer growth ie things that turn to sugar in the body, i would like to know what sort of food can be eaten that may be low fiber but also healthy can anyone suggest what i can advise her to eat that will be nutritious but not disrupt the healing of the colon.

Baby Colon is What it is Like After Colon Surgery
by: Anonymous

Hi,
I had a colon resection last year and you have to reintroduce food to your system so the diet that thy gave your mother is very bland. Then you can after a couple of weeks your can start adding things. My Dr. who was voted one of the top drs in this field in the country told me you have to treat it like a brand new baby so keep that in mind. I did and had my colonoscopy two days ago and all is well.
