Colonoscopy, Lifesaver.

I had been getting colonoscopys on a regular schedule since I was 50 years old. (I'm 70 now) My last colon scope was three years ago. Doctor said everything looked good, take three years off. Went back for my scheduled check after three years and oops, you have a problem.
I had colon cancer. The cancer was outside the colon and the tumor was about 3 inches in diameter. It was resting on my back muscle, but not attached. I had a right hemicolectomy done and the surgeon removed about 12 inches of my colon. He also removed 26 lymph nodes around the area which were all benign. I had a pet scan after I got out of the hospital and it was clear.
Thank God for getting me thru all of this. I am currently taking radiation on the spot the tumor was resting, then chemo for three days a week every other week. That will go for six months. If I had not gone back in three years and waited for five, my Oncologist said I would have been in deep trouble, maybe not curable.
So please, please get a colonoscopy and do it on a regular basis. It's a lifesaver. Oh, I also had prostate cancer diagnosed last May. We beat that one, my last psa was 0.2. If you are getting around my age that's another test you should have. It's a simple blood draw.
