Not getting better 14 after surgery

My father is still in the hospital after 14 days from surgery. he has bloating and they put a tube down his nose cuz he kept getting sick and not holding down anything. He hasn't had food and only ice (dixie cup) at night. He has had 5 different x-rays taken to see what might be stopping him from feeling better. Can he last like this? I'm now very worried and I don't know if this is ok. He had stage 1 and is a very healthy man.

I had lyperscopic last May (colon resection)
To begin with my Dr. was excellent.
I was week when I went home but I was up and driving in two weeks.I had no pain
