Finding out you have colon cancer may feel like the lowest point of your life. But colon cancer support groups can help you get through this difficult time. You might feel scared, confused and anxious. Perhaps you are wondering if you are going to get better. You may even feel angry about why this is happening to you.
Colon Cancer Support
When you initially hear that diagnosis, we know how terrifying and overwhelming you can feel. Do not give up hope. You might think that life is never going to be the same again. But that doesn't mean that life will no longer be great. Many people have been at the point you are now, and come through the other side. However, colon cancer support groups can help you take your difficulties in stride and comfortably manage your journey.
For a start, colon cancer support can help you find out about new effective treatments to give you more choices. The group can also help you deal with the large amount of literature on trials, treatments and side effects.
People want to help, so do not think for a second that you are a burden to them. Another form of support is cancer chat, available on the Internet.
Focus on What Relaxes You
And when your friends and family offer to help (which they will), take them up on the offer, even if it is just doing the dishes. I know from personal experience that they really want to help you. On the other hand, if you want to keep your life running as it did prior to your diagnosis, you have every right to do that. Focus on what makes you feel more relaxed and go with that.
Of course you are not always going to feel relaxed. You might feel hopeless and sad, wondering if you are going to get better. You are allowed to have every thought and emotion inside of you right now. It is all normal and understandable.
Express Your Feelings
So be open about your feelings. Try and express them in some way, whether it is through talking, writing them down or taking up a hobby.
Also, do not feel ashamed if you want to speak to a professional. You have many new and complicated thoughts and feelings. And support groups for cancer are a good way to meet other people in the same situation. You are not alone in this battle to get better.
Cancer may change a lot of things, but don't let it change the inner you. Just take each day as it comes, and take charge of as much as you can. That way you will feel more in control, and in time, more calm and happy. Just learn as much as possible, and face this journey head on. We know you can do it.
