If my dad died of colon cancer and I'm 32 years old female...what do I do to prevent it? Will I get it? I have two babies and I worry for them all the time.

Get checked
by: Anonymous

I am 36 years old and was recently diagnosed with stage 1, I am the 4th generation to have colon cancer....My dad was diagnosed at 46, he had surgery twice now and is doing okay. For my grandfather at 50 it was too late, and same for his mother at the age of 44. Rule of thumb is to get checked 10 yrs of age before your parent was diagnosed, however in some cases you may need to go early.

Talk to your doctor about your risk for colon cancer, and tell him you want to be screened for colon cancer. You will need to have a colonoscopy younger because of your family history. I hope this helps.
