Colon cancer operated from stage 3 to stage 2, but CEA still increasing

Hi ,
Kindly please give me your comments.
This is a question from my uncle who is married to my sister. He had colon cancer stage 3. Now it was operated upon and reduced to stage 2.

Every doctor guided him so he can live like others. But the CEA (cells count) level is still increasing (now 23) . He has taken all the scans and blood tests, etc.

His doctors say there is no problem - nothing there has problem but we are still worried there is some thing. Could you please give me your valuable answere.

This will help us to find the actual problem.

what does it mean to have a CEA that is rising
by: Anonymous

The CEA level is a tumor marker that can tell if cancer cells are growing back. If the CEA is rising, there could be small areas of tumor beginning to grow on areas around the colon or in the liver, bone or lungs. The CEA can rise for other reasons, too, so if a person has a normal CT scan or MRI of the body showing no tumor, that is always a good sign. Sometimes doctors use chemotherapy to treat a rising CEA because they believe tumor cells are growing but are too small to see on CT scan. It all depends on the patient and on what the doctors feel is best for the patient.
