Bowel, Colon Cancer suspected

by Kim
(London, England)

Hi my names Kim and I've been suffering since before xmas 2011 with chronic diareah, blood on paper, itching, aneamia, tiredness and night sweats.

As Im nearly 49 I put this down to the menopause and although the doctor did a blood test several months ago found my aneamia and put me on Iron supplements. Ongoing with some abdominal pain too

I approached a new doc and she was fab and referred me to Gastro at St. Thomas's and Guys Hospital. I went for my first appt on Monday 5th September. He felt my abdomin and it was quite painful in an area which surprised me as I hadnt realised, I asked for the anal area examination at the time of my colonoscopy.

He said I needed an urgent blood test, Abdominal Scan and Colonoscopy. I had my blood test that day and have my scan on Mon 12th September. I rang to arrange my Colonoscopy and the receptionist said the next urgent appt was on 28th October, that over 6 weeks away. My nausea and stools are just unbearable now, cant eat properly and am feeling quite low and worried.

Could anyone offer advice and is this usual to wait so long for a Colonoscopy and will the scan tell me anything on the day? I'm so worried as I also just found out that my Grandad died of Bowel Cancer very young and I didnt know this.

Please give any advice and help anyone. Kim

Colonoscopy - Bring it on!
by: Anonymous

Hey Kim, I have suffered for years with bowel symptoms, same as you. It all started after the birth of my first born in 1979. I went to a specialist four years ago and he said mild to moderate piles and I have been dealing with them with diet and hygiene and anything I can to relieve the symptoms. Unfortunately, I had started bleeding quite profusely in recent years and was so scared to go that I just treated them myself. But eventually, my family made me make that inevitable appointment. The doc didn't even examine me. He just pencilled me in for a colonoscopy, which I have always been dreading and I had it last Thursday. I woke up, not believing that I had survived the anaesthetic and was informed by the doc that I had internal and external piles which he had injected. One week on, I am going to loo perfectly, no aftershocks, no bleeding, no feeling that I want to go again, no pain, no itchiness, nothing. I can't believe I waited 32 years to have this procedure done. My grandfather had bowel cancer and this was my worry for years. I am not worrying anymore and if I was told I had to have a colonoscopy tomorrow, I would welcome it. Painless. Nothing to worry about and the most life saving procedure you will ever have. I can look forward to the rest of my days now with my mind eased for the first time in decades. Bring it on. Get it done. Worth the effort and well worth the outcome. Best of luck to you. xx

I feel sorry for what you?re going through. I know how you feel.
The best thing you can do now is try to go to emergency room in a hospital.
I hope they will do a colonoscopy the same day. Don?t wait for several weeks to do it.
Find a way to do it as soon as possible. If you can?t do it in the hospital, then you have to see another doctor that would do the colonoscopy sooner than the first doctor.
I?ll pray for you.
