bowel cancer

by adele
(sydney australia)

I was wrongly diagnosed with bowel cancer. They operated on me; took out my large intestine, and half my bladder...then the results came back a lump of endemetrious was found in the lower intestine which was removed as the cancer...

I'm having problems with going to the toilet and my bladder is overactive and too small...I feel tired and dizzy a lot of the time...Can anyone please tell me if I will recover from this and how long it will take...

I'm seeing the relevant doctors, but they seem to be at a loss with me...

dietician advise for bowel cancer issue
by: Melissa

Low fiber for now. Gradually add back fiber as tolerated, as long as there is no diarrhea. Avoid raw fruits, veggies, foods with seeds such as popcorn, whole grains, etc.

another question...
by: Anonymous

would diet help me after this surgery...what should i eat etc. ive seen a dietician who has prescribed a high fibre diet which works but keeps me running to the toilet...what should i eat? also my bladder is painful and there is constant leaking...ive been told to hold for 3-4 hours, but due to my bladder being smaller and being overactive (not diagnosed, but i feel it is) what would be treatment for this condition...i am hopeful that it will expand in the future...i am also plagued with the adhesion problem ive had surgeries since i was 26 for endemetriosis and now the pain is acute and i must sit down for long periods or lie down after any activity...im nervous aboute these adhesions strangling my intestines...thanks for your help in advance...

wrongly diagnosed bowel cancer

It is unusual to have such a big surgery for something that turns out not to be cancer at all. Your bladder problems can be treated with medications and the bladder has an amazing ability to stretch over time so that may actually get better. Any bowel complaints you have as a result of this surgery are likely to remain the same. It is too bad no one did a biopsy before removing so much of the colon and bladder.
